Important Tips for Using a Facebook Account
A practical checklist for safer Facebook use, covering security, devices, content, privacy, and responses to warnings.

A Facebook account can be restricted or compromised because of more than a weak password. Unfamiliar devices, risky apps, and unusual activity can also create problems. Use this checklist before you begin.
Security checklist
- Use a unique, long password that is not reused for email or another service.
- Enable 2FA at /tools/2fa and store recovery codes securely.
- Review active sessions and sign out devices you do not recognize.
- Never share a password, cookie, one-time code, or 2FA code, including with someone claiming to be support.
- Grant access only to apps you need and remove unused connections.
Devices and networks
Keep your browser, operating system, and security software updated. Avoid signing in on public computers, untrusted Wi-Fi, or with unknown extensions. When you must use another device, sign out fully and review active sessions afterward.
Content and interactions
Post content you have permission to use, do not impersonate people or organizations, and do not send identical content to large numbers of people. Friend requests, messages, and comments should have context. Do not use automation to manufacture engagement or bypass platform limits.
When a warning appears
Do not repeat the action continuously. Read the notice, save a screenshot if useful, and follow Facebook's in-product instructions. Check warning emails by opening Facebook directly rather than clicking a suspicious link. If you suspect account takeover, change the password, end unfamiliar sessions, and review connected apps.
If you manage multiple accounts, see guidance for using multiple Facebook accounts at once and create a clear process. For account purchases, visit the FB shop and review support policies before ordering.
